Exam forms never ask your age today — they ask your age on one fixed ‘cut-off’ date written in the notification, like 1 August or 1 January. Enter your date of birth and the cut-off date, and this calculator tells your exact age in years, months and days on that date. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Why the cut-off date matters
Two candidates born a few days apart can fall on different sides of an age limit because of the cut-off date. If the limit is 27 years on 1 August, a candidate who turns 27 on 2 August is still 26 on the cut-off date, while a candidate who turned 27 on 31 July has already crossed it. That is why you should always check your age on the exact cut-off date of your exam, not on the exam day.
| Exam | Usual cut-off date |
|---|---|
| SSC / UPSC | 1 August |
| SSC CHSL / MTS and Railway (RRB) | 1 January |
| SBI | 1 April |
These are the usual dates from recent notifications — your notification is the final authority.
Frequently asked questions
How is age calculated for SSC exams?
Age is counted on the cut-off date in the notification, not on the exam day or the last date to apply.
What if my birthday is exactly on the cut-off date?
Then you complete that year of age on that date itself — e.g. turning 21 on 1 August means your age is 21 years on 1 August.
Does this calculator store my date of birth?
No, it works in your browser only.
